Privacy Policy
Last updated: 13 September 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how AccyBuddy, developed and published by SXdigital, handles personal information when you use the app, its web/PWA version, related tools and related support services. AccyBuddy is an independent study product and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
For privacy or account enquiries, use the in-app support tool or email sxdigital.dev@gmail.com.
1. Who is responsible for your data?
SXdigital is responsible for deciding how personal information is used for AccyBuddy. You can contact us at sxdigital.dev@gmail.com.
2. Information we process
Account information
If you create an account, we process your email address, account identifier and authentication/session information. Authentication is provided through Supabase. AccyBuddy does not store your plaintext password in its study database.
Account-security and installation information
To reduce account sharing, repeated unauthorised access and other login abuse, the app creates a random installation identifier on the device. When you sign in, we may process that identifier together with a simple device/platform label and first/last-used timestamps. This identifier is generated by the app and is not a hardware serial number, advertising identifier, precise-location identifier or browser fingerprint. Up to three installations may count as active for an account at one time; an installation that has not been used for 30 days stops counting toward that limit. Signed-in users can view and remove registered installations from the app.
Study and app information
Depending on the features you use, we may process question attempts, selected answers, written responses, marks, time taken, practice-session history, bookmarks, question reports, flashcard reviews, study-plan entries, preferences, selected papers/topics, progress statistics, streaks and access/entitlement status.
Feedback and diagnostics
If you choose to submit feedback, we process the message you send. The report may also include limited technical context such as the app version, current screen, selected paper/topic/question, online/offline state, screen or viewport size and browser/device information. The feedback form allows technical diagnostics to be excluded. If you are signed in, feedback may be linked to your account identifier so we can investigate the issue; signed-out feedback is submitted without an account identifier.
Local/offline information
The app uses browser/app storage, including local storage, IndexedDB and caches, to remember settings, restore sessions, queue unsynced attempts or feedback and store downloaded revision/offline packs. This information remains on the device unless it is synchronised, cleared by you, removed through account deletion where applicable, or cleared by the operating system/browser.
Technical service information
Our backend and hosting providers may process routine request information such as IP address, timestamps and security/connection metadata as part of operating, protecting and troubleshooting their services.
Purchases and subscriptions
Google Play processes Android purchases and payment details. AccyBuddy receives purchase status, product and subscription identifiers, expiry information and a purchase token needed for server verification and entitlement management. The app does not receive or store your full card details. Raw purchase tokens are not stored in the study database after verification.
Study reminders and exam planning
If you enable study reminders, the installed mobile app may schedule local notifications on your device for planner sessions and exam-countdown milestones. Notification permission is controlled by your device. Exam dates, study availability and planning preferences may be stored with your account when you are signed in.
3. Information we do not currently request
The current release does not request access to your camera, microphone, contacts, precise location or photo library. The free tier may use the Google Mobile Ads SDK to display a sponsored native advertising card within the Home feed; Premium is designed to be ad-free. The advertising SDK may process device or advertising identifiers, IP address, general device/app information and ad interaction data for ad delivery, measurement, security and fraud prevention, subject to applicable consent and platform settings. We do not sell personal information.
4. Why we use information
- to create and authenticate accounts;
- to protect accounts and enforce reasonable login/device limits;
- to provide question practice, mocks, revision, flashcards, planning, bookmarks and progress features;
- to synchronise activity between sessions/devices and support offline recovery;
- to generate study analytics and recommendations for you;
- to investigate feedback, content reports, bugs, abuse and security issues;
- to maintain, secure and improve the service; and
- to meet legal or app-store obligations where applicable.
We do not use your study data to make decisions about employment, university admission, credit, insurance or other similarly significant matters.
5. UK data-protection legal bases
Where UK data-protection law applies, our principal legal bases are: contract where processing is necessary to provide an account or requested app feature; legitimate interests in operating, securing, troubleshooting and improving the service, balanced against your rights; consent where you make an optional choice that specifically requires it, such as including optional diagnostic information where presented as optional; and legal obligation where processing is required by law.
6. Service providers and disclosure
AccyBuddy uses Supabase for backend database, authentication and related server functionality. We may also use app-store/platform and web-hosting providers to distribute the app or publish its legal/support pages. These providers process information only as needed for their services and subject to their own contractual and legal obligations.
Where sponsored advertising is enabled, Google acts as an advertising technology provider. Where required, the app requests or refreshes advertising privacy choices before requesting an ad and provides an in-app entry point to revisit those choices.
We may disclose information if required by law, to protect users or the service from fraud/security threats, or as part of a genuine business transfer where lawful safeguards apply. We do not sell or rent your personal information to advertisers.
